Books to Action in Boise!

During the fellowship, I was so inspired by the Books to Action program created through a partnership between Multnomah County Library and Hands on Greater Portland, that I have started one in Boise, Idaho.  Read more about it by clicking the link to the latest blog post on the Idaho Commission for Libraries website:http://libraries.idaho.gov/blogs/sarahchase/books-to-actionlearn-talk-doSee More

Jacqulyn Owens replied to Suzanne Flint's discussion 'American Cities Grapple with Aging'
Cities as well as small rural communities need to think about aging and disabilities. Aging does not mean disability but often disability may happen either for a short period or permanently. My spouse is disabled. We locate resturants, bathrooms,…

American Cities Grapple with Aging

As reported in this recent Medical Xpress article http://medicalxpress.com/news/2011-07-aging-boomers-strain-cities-built.html, cities are starting to explore how they'll need to change in order to help older adults stay active and independent in their own homes. Some very simple and cost-effective strategies are being proposed. What are some other ideas or suggestions that might help move this initiative…See More

We are delighted to have 90 Fellows from twelve states participating in our year-long IMLS Western Regional Fellowship. Fellows were introduced to a new framework for serving and engaging midlife adults, ages 50+ at an in-person training institute in Portland, Oregon this past September. They are now participating in an online learning community to build skills and apply lessons learned.

We hope this space will provide the Fellows, and the entire TLA50 Ning Community, with a forum for dialogue, learning and networking. We invite you to join the conversation.

Welcome to our community! Now what?

Thank you for visiting our Transforming Life After 50 community, we hope you feel inspired to share stories, learn from your peers, and connect with other libraries and others who are redefining aging.

To get started...

1) Create your page: Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you work? Why are you interested in the resources we offer here at TLA50?

2) Make contacts: Find your colleagues among our members. Starting a group can help you keep in touch with a specific cohort.

3) Share: We would love to hear about your library and the work you have done with mid-life adults ages 50+. You can write a blog post, start a discussion, or just post to your personal page.

4) Invite your friends: Send an invitation to your colleagues and peers to join our community.

5) Visit TLA50.org: Check out our website, a rich resource with lots of videos and information

6) Find us on other networks:
- Facebook: A large network where you can converse, share and learn from other libraries and their staff.
- Twitter: Bite size news items, and lots of links to share and talk about. Use the hashtag #TLA50 to join the conversation.
- YouTube: We share videos made by participating libraries as part of their TLA50 programs.

About TLA50

The Transforming Life After 50 initiative (TLA50) is a growing community of library professionals and library users who are working to transform how libraries serve and engage their communities, especially active mid-life adults ages 50+. Although initially formed to support the twenty-four grant funded libraries in California where the initiative began, we hope to interact with other libraries, in California and beyond, that are also actively reaching out to their mid-life adult communities.

By inviting libraries to share their experiences and lessons learned, we hope to create a diverse TLA50 learning community – a place to exchange ideas and share examples from which we all may draw inspiration.
